Nika Gvaramia violated Charter's First principle
23.02.2019
The disputed part of the TV program "Accents of the Week" was related to the amendments to the education system, in particular, the changes introduced to the exam rules and the list of the compulsory examination subjects. In this context, Nika Gvaramia mentioned Gigi Tevzadze and said the latter was associated with a group of individuals implementing the above changes. Gigi Tevzadze denied any connection with the ongoing amendments. Nika Gvaramia did not refer to any evidence or a circumstance, which could have proved the “fact”. Based on the foregoing, the Council deemed that Nika Gvaramia showed disrespect to the right of the public to receive accurate information and therefore, violated the First principle of the Charter.

The case hearing was attended by the applicant only. The respondent journalist neither showed up nor presented a counterclaim.
